A sad return
Greetings everyone, it's been a very long time since I've posted on Guild Wars Guru. I doubt very many, if any, remember me, from the Suggested Class Index. In any event, unfortunate circumstances preclude me from pleasantries.
As of a few days ago, gold sellers hacked my account. They sacked all my characters of essentially all goods. 6 years worth, of collected armor, weapons, minipets, dyes, party/holiday items, zaishen coins, collectables, and gold. Thanks to the speed and efficiency of the Guild Wars support team, I am at least in control of my account again. That said I am sending a message to all.
If you have bought items from Ken Dei, Reso Dei, Bloodreaver Aegis, Bloodmist Assassin, Malicious Claw, Bloodspear Soldier, or Charnel and Fire in the past 48-72 hours, please contact me in PM immediately. I doubt very much this will work, but I can think of no other way to locate and perhaps recover some of my wayward possessions.
Thank you for your attention. I could not decide what forum would be most appropriate for this thread, so if the mods deem it needs to go somewhere else, by all means move it with my blessing. Now then...I'll be off to salvage what I can from this mess.

I would guess that your stuff was quickly swapped to another of the thief's accounts, rather than actually sold in Kamadan or wherever directly from your characters. I guess it's worth a shot though.
It'd be awfully nice if the Live team added some more security options for logins and password changes. It's sad that this sort of thing is still common six years in.
Best of luck.

I think Anet should offer the option of something akin to the Blizzard Authenticator. It's a fairly easy thing to implement and it'd make anet some cash selling them in the store for 5 bucks or whatever.
I know it's been suggested before but all online games should use something like it.

I would love more security and I am guessing one reason it hasn't happened, is the belief that its self inflicted.
If that is true then no matter what security they implement people will get hacked.
If on the other hand people are hacked for real then beefing up security is the way forward.
Until anet and the community knows for sure one way or the other I doubt anything will change.
All we as forum members know is that a load of people are claiming total innocence, some believe them others do not.
I have an open mind atm, I would just dump everything in the hom and if hacked at least everything I care about is protected

I can handle losing my loot, all my armor, but my characters would make me angry and sad, Anet should have added a secondary password for deleting characters and other stuff, this way even if they hack your account all they can do is steal your stuff.

The good news is that I have been applying most everything to my HoM since it came out, so my Legacy is still intact. Also none of my characters were deleted. So everything "critical" for preparation for GW 2 is intact.
As for how I got hacked I don't know. I checked my machine and wasn't able to find keyloggers, I never gave my password to anyone. So it's a total mystery.

That is good news indeed - and a great outlook to have after such a gutting. I hate hearing about these types of theft....people don't always realise how much time we put into our "hobbies" & how depressed you can get after having your account or "on line life" ransacked. Good luck with your search & keep that chin up!

If you don't know how you got hacked, what makes you thinking tracking down people who bought items from those people you mentioned will help you? I don't understand.

because those are probably their characters so if anyone bought anything from them, they might find their items again

How would you know they are the toons of the person who hacked you?

Those are his toons. He's hoping the hacker sold some of his stuff while on his account, so he might have a chance at retrieving some of them.

Glad you secured everything you could, don't know how I would feel if it happened to me except that I would probably reformat the pc and not play gw again for a very long time if ever.

Anet has already done everything that can for me, and did so in less than a week. I was very appreciative of the speed with which they re-secured my account for me. I don't blame the level of Anet's account security or myself, since I did everything I was supposed to to stay safe.
I'm really glad people are at least sympathetic, I was worried people would think this was a charity scam or something. Honestly, I'm not looking for handouts, just for what happened to my stuff.
In any event I gotta say grinding on critters in the Echovald Forest without armor has been...interesting. My monks are still very good...even if their greens were stolen. They're keeping me alive after 3-400 damage hits. Who woulda thought?
I'll keep hoping some trace of my stuff pops up for the next 24-48 hours but after that the trail will probably be very, very cold.
